Dr. Vimal K Sikri, a well known academician, graduated from Govt. Dental College, Patiala and did his post graduation from Govt. Dental College, Amritsar. After a brief stint in Himachal Health Services, he joined teaching in Govt. Dental College, Amritsar. Presently, Dr. Sikri is Professor and Head, Dept. of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and Principal of Govt. Dental College and Hospital, Amritsar. He is also Dean, Faculty of dental sciences, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot (Punjab). He has over 32 years of experience in teaching and research in dentistry.

Blessed with an aptitude for teaching, Dr. Sikri has authored six books viz. Fundamentals of Dental Radiology (4th Edition), Community Dentistry (1st Edition), Text book of Operative Dentistry (2nd Edition), Pre-clinical Conservative Dentistry (1st Edition), Indirect Restorations (1st Edition) and Essentials of Endodontics (1st Edition).

Dr. Sikri is the only dental teacher in India to have successfully completed Diploma in Evaluation, Methodology and Examination from Association of Indian Universities and that too with distinction. He also stood first in Diploma in Office Management from the Punjab University.

He has to his credit more than 80 scientific publications in reputed journals. He is an examiner for BDS, MDS, DNB and PhD at various Indian Universities. He is Editor of 'i dentistry', the journal published on behalf of the Indian Dental Association, Punjab. He was founder Editor of the 'Journal of Conservative Dentistry' published by Federation of Operative Dentistry of India. He has been invited as a keynote/guest speaker at various National/International conferences.

Dr. Sikri has always been at the forefront regarding issues pertaining to dentistry in our country. Widely travelled, he knows the psyche of the students and the teachers pursuing higher education. Apart from his academic acumen, he is very active in social life. Regarding social and extracurricular activities, he remained President of Punjab Dental Council and President Indian Dental Association, Punjab state, Deputy Zonal reagent of International College of Dentists and Executive member of Asian Society for Dental Education, to name a few.
